Leading Courageous Conversations at UniteUs

IT/technology company UniteUs aims to create systems, processes, and learning opportunities that support the organization in building an inclusive culture for individuals of all identities and levels. One of those learning opportunities is Leading Courageous Conversations, a quarterly interactive and collaborative learning series designed for people managers to participate in real-play to practice addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion-related situations that occur in the workplace and on their teams. This scenario-based learning experience is rooted in dialogue and conversation, allowing for peer-to-peer support and learning to occur in a safe space led by internal DEI practitioners from UniteUs’ Learning, Development, and Diversity team. The virtual live instructor-led training is reinforced with self-guided learning resources and through communities of practice. Managers who complete the summative assessment at the end of the year and/or after completing at least three of the quarterly sessions earn recognition via a digital badge.

UniteUs’ midyear engagement average Psychological Safety Score was 90 percent as derived from the following statements:
  • Members of this team are able to bring up problems and tough issues.
  • I feel safe to give feedback or suggest ideas on my team.
  • It is safe to take a risk on this team.
  • It is easy to ask other members of my team for help.
